What's New in 7.0
A re-architected knowledge system, a local semantic index, an MCP server, and a setup you can edit in any text editor.
The short version
Version 7.0 rebuilds the parts of Triplo AI that were hardest to trust: how it stores what you make, how it searches what you know, and how it works with the rest of your tools.
This page is the story of 7.0. For every release since 2023 — desktop and mobile — see the Changelog.
Minds are folders of Markdown you can read, edit and back up.
A bundled embedding model. No uploads, no runtime download.
Other AI tools can query your knowledge base directly.
Edit your setup in any editor. Put it under version control.
Drag any edge. Your size sticks; dialogs keep theirs.
Pi ships inside Triplo: a full agent loop — terminal, files, tools — behind your hotkey.
Minds are now real folders
A Mind used to be a block of text. It is now a directory on your disk with a defined structure, a processing pipeline and a generated catalogue.
INGEST/ folder. Anything you put there is picked up automatically — Triplo does not even need to be open.files/; anything unprocessable lands in failed/ instead of disappearing.Semantic search that runs on your machine
Retrieval used to be keyword matching over titles and tags. It is now a vector index built with an embedding model bundled inside the app.
- Finds by meaning. "Onboarding a new starter" matches "Employee induction procedure".
- Entirely local. The model ships with the app — about 52 MB — and is never downloaded at runtime. A Mind works on a machine that has never been online.
- Sized to your model. Triplo calculates the remaining context window and retrieves to fit, so a large-context model automatically gets more grounding.
- Live. Edit a vault note and the index updates a couple of seconds later.
- Never dead. If the vector index is unavailable, keyword search takes over.
Answers now carry a Grounded in N sources chip with relevance scores and click-through to the file, so you can see whether an answer really came from your material.
Triplo can serve your knowledge to other tools
New in 7.0: an opt-in local MCP server. Switch it on and any MCP-compatible client — Claude Code, Cowork and others — can list your Minds, read their structure, search them and add notes.
Loopback-only and token-protected: it is not reachable from your network, and every request needs the bearer token shown in Settings.
Your configuration is text now
SmartPrompts, Instructions, Automations and conversation history are Markdown files under ~/Documents/Triplo AI/. Triplo watches those folders, so an edit in your own editor is live within about half a second.
That makes bulk edits, generation from templates, diffs, code review and git-based sync all possible for the first time. Files as configuration →
Instructions also changed shape: the old Context and Response Style are now What and How. Existing files in the old format are still read correctly, so nothing breaks.
Everything else
In the conversation
- Regenerate a response, or edit and resend a message you already sent, replacing everything after it.
- Thinking bubbles for reasoning models, collapsible and switchable.
- Streaming detection — endpoints that ignore or mis-declare streaming are handled without configuration.
In the prompt bar
//clipboard//joins//selected//, with a live preview of what will be inserted.- Raw pass-through — a prompt starting with
//skips all of Triplo's assembly. Invaluable for diagnosis. - SmartPrompt matching by name as well as command.
- Smarter pasting — text is preferred over the image snapshot Office puts alongside it.
Around the app
- Agents. Triplo now ships with Pi: an agent that reads, runs and edits inside a folder you approve, driven from the prompt bar with
//commands, paid for with a provider key of your own. Hermes is the second agent — run a gateway and Triplo finds it and connects itself. Both sit behind the hotkey you already use. Agents → - Stop generating. A stop button in the prompt bar while a response is streaming, and Esc does the same. Whatever arrived so far is kept.
- A resizable window. Drag any edge or corner. Your size is remembered, a conversation takes the extra height, and dialogs still open at their designed size. Resizing the window →
- Backup and Restore to a single validated
.zip, with an automatic restart afterwards. - Nine remappable App Hotkeys, each individually disableable, with conflict detection across all three hotkey tiers.
- A draggable status dot that floats above full-screen apps — the missing feedback for background hotkey runs.
- Device sharing with a visible sync state and read-only
Shared/folders. - Automatic updates from the official release feed, with a manual download fallback.
- Awareness capability detection — Triplo now tells you why selection capture is unavailable and prompts for the permission it needs.
- Window position is remembered and kept on-screen across display changes; Windows and Linux rendering issues around the frameless window are fixed.
Upgrading from 6.x
What happens automatically
- Existing SmartPrompts, Instructions and Minds are migrated to the new Markdown layout on first run.
- If something is missed, or you migrate later, Help & About carries a Migrate v6.x Data link that re-runs the import on demand. It is safe to run more than once.
- Data stored in older locations is moved into
~/Documents/Triplo AI/. - Instructions written as Context / Response Style keep working; new saves use What / How.
- Your licence, devices and settings carry over untouched.
What you should do
Help & About → Backup My Data, on 6.x, before you install 7.0.
The vault format is new. Existing Mind text migrates, but documents you previously ingested are best re-added so they get processed by the new pipeline.
The App Hotkey set is new. Review the defaults and remap anything that clashes.
macOS treats the new build as a new application. Remove Triplo from the Accessibility list, add it again, restart.
What changed name
| 6.x | 7.0 |
|---|---|
| Training / Knowledge Bases | Minds — the UI still says Training; everything else says Minds |
| Instruction: Context / Response Style | What / How |
| Agents [BETA] | Split into Automations and the MCP server |
Not available in 7.0
- Dictation. The Cmd+D shortcut exists but does nothing yet. Voice input via the microphone button works.
- Interface language. The selector is present but the interface is English only. The output-language selector works normally.
- Mobile access to local models. Not part of this release.
